1 Samuel 16 – “The Lord Looketh on the Heart”
Verse 7
7But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord aseeth not as bman seeth; for man looketh on the outward cappearance, but the dLord looketh on the eheart.
My Thoughts: We are a society that generally glorifies outward beauty. The physically attractive are praised and society seldom looks deeper to a person’s heart. It’s superficial. But as disciples of Christ we must look deeper to one’s heart. Is there charity? Is there a deep love for the Lord? Is there humility? That is what is important in God’s eyes and thus should be in ours.
This reminds me of a talk Elder Jeffrey R Holland gave in the October 2005 General Conference addressing young women. He pleaded with them to stop trying to become what they see in magazines and rather work to become their best selves – a much more obtainable goal!
